First websites · New Zealand

No website yet? Start here.

Plenty of good local businesses run on word of mouth, a Facebook page and a phone number. Here’s what a first website does for you, what it needs, what it costs, and how to get one without the hassle.

Already made, no sign-up. We design free homepage concepts for local businesses and send them over, ready to look at. Want yours? Send your business name and town. No account, no card, no call. Designed within 24 hours, live in 72 if you go ahead.

What happens when someone looks you up

A friend recommends you, or someone spots your van. Before they ring, they search your name. With no website, they find a half-filled map listing, an old Facebook post, or a directory page that lists three of your competitors next to you.

A simple website shows you’re a real, current business, says what you do and where, and puts your number one tap away. A first site doesn’t need to do more than that.

Your first website only needs five things

What you do

Your main services in plain words, the way customers would say them.

Where you work

Your town, or the suburbs and towns you travel to. This is also what helps you show up in local searches.

How to reach you

A tap-to-call button, an email or enquiry form, and your hours if people visit.

Proof you’re good

Photos of your work, a few words about you, and a link to your reviews.

Your own address on the web

A domain like yourbusiness.co.nz, registered in your name, so the site and the email address stay yours.

Isn’t a Facebook page or Google listing enough?

Get a Google Business Profile either way. It’s free and it’s often the first thing people see. Our Google Business Profile checklist walks you through it.

Facebook is handy for news and photos, but not everyone uses it, it’s hard to scan for services, and you don’t control how it looks. A website is the one place online that’s fully yours, and it works best alongside your Google listing.

Getting your first site, step by step

  1. 01

    Pick and register your domain

A .co.nz or .nz name, in your name. If you don’t have one yet, we help you choose and register it.

  2. 02

Set up or tidy your Google Business Profile

Hours, service area, categories, photos. We check it matches the site.

  3. 03

    Get the site designed

One page is plenty to start. We write the words with you and design the homepage first, so you see it before you commit.

  4. 04

Go live, then add as you grow

Add pages for services, a gallery or bookings later. Starting small is fine.

Your homepage might already be designed

We find local businesses without a website and design a free homepage concept for them, ready to look at. No form to fill in first, no account and no call.

If we haven’t sent you one yet, email us your business name and town and we’ll design it within 24 hours. If you like it, the full site can be live in 72 hours. If you don’t, no worries.

Do I really need a website if I’m busy already?

Not every business does. But if people look you up before they call, a simple site makes it more likely they call you rather than the next name on the list. It also helps when you want to raise prices, hire or take on different work.

How much does a first website cost?

Our one-page Essentials site is NZ$1,490, one-off. Business, at NZ$2,490, adds up to 6 pages, copywriting and booking or enquiry set-up. The optional care plan is NZ$49/month. Our cost guide shows how that compares with other options in NZ.

Do I need my own domain name?

We recommend it. A domain like yourbusiness.co.nz looks professional, gives you a matching email address, and stays yours if you ever change designers. It’s a small yearly fee.

I’m not techy. Will I have to do much?

Very little. You tell us about your business, look at the design, reply with changes and approve the words. We handle the domain, the build and the set-up.

Can I start with one page and add more later?

Yes. Many businesses start with one page and add service pages, a gallery or online booking when they need them.

I don’t have good photos or words. Is that a problem?

No. The Business package includes copywriting, and we can work with phone photos of your work. Real photos of your own jobs usually beat stock images.

Who owns the website?

You do. The domain is registered in your name and there’s no lock-in contract.
